Embroidery vs Screen Printing on Flannel

On flannel, this is a durability question

On a tee this is mostly a style question. On brushed cotton flannel it is a durability question, and the wrong answer shows up after about six washes.

What the nap does to your artwork

Flannel is brushed, so the surface has a raised nap. Fine printed detail sinks into it and fine embroidery detail can disappear if the logo has not been digitised for the coarser weave. This is why artwork that looked crisp on a sample tee can land soft on flannel.

Where embroidery wins

Chest logos, sleeve marks and anything on a shirt that will be washed weekly for years. Thread is worked into the fabric rather than sitting on it, so there is nothing to crack or peel.

Where screen printing wins

Anything large. A full back panel in embroidery is slow and costly, and stiffens the garment. Print handles big illustrated artwork at a fraction of the price, and with the right inks it stays flexible on brushed cotton.

The practical answer is usually both
