Everything you need to know about wholesale flannels

A wholesale flannel program is one of apparel’s steadiest plays: plaid never cycles out, the fall-winter sell-through is metronomic, and the same shirt serves crews, merch lines and retail racks. The variables that matter are fabric weight, brush quality and colorfastness — the differences you feel at the second wash.

Buying well means matching weight to season and use, choosing blank versus decorated, and building a size curve that fits real customers. This guide covers all of it with case pricing — then a wholesale quote locks your program in.

Why go custom

The shirt that sells itself every fall

A wholesale flannel line is inventory that behaves: predictable seasonal demand, broad size appeal, and a garment people buy on touch — double-brushed cotton closes the sale at the rack.

Evergreen demand

Plaid flannel is a permanent fixture of fall retail — the reorder rhythm you can set a calendar by.

Sells on touch

Double-brushed hand-feel converts browsers — the rack does the selling.

Crew-tough build

Triple-stitched seams and hardy buttons make it uniform-grade for trades and outfitters.

Weights and seasons

Flannel weights: match the ounce to the use

Flannel is measured in ounces per square yard — the number that decides whether it’s a shirt, a shacket or a layer. Here’s the range and where each sells.

Fabric weight by class (oz/yd²)

0 3 6 9 12 Light Layering Mid Rack pick Heavy Workwear Shacket Outerwear

Midweight 7 oz is the retail workhorse — substantial hand-feel, three-season wearability.

Where wholesale flannels go (share)

Retail leads, but crew programs are the fastest growers — flannel reads friendlier than a polo on job sites.

Materials

Brushed cotton that survives the wash test

Our flannels weave from ring-spun cotton, double-brushed on both faces — the nap that makes flannel feel like flannel. Yarn-dyed plaids (not printed) keep their pattern crisp through seasons of washing, because the color is in the thread, not on it.

Construction is uniform-grade across the line: triple-stitched main seams, chest pockets that hold their corners, and buttons anchored to outlast the elbows. Decorated programs get embroidery-grade placket and yoke stability.

  • Ring-spun cotton — soft base, strong thread
  • Double-brushed faces — the flannel hand-feel
  • Yarn-dyed plaids — pattern woven in, not printed
  • Triple-stitched seams — workwear construction
  • Anchored buttons — the small thing that fails first elsewhere
  • Embroidery-stable yokes — clean decoration surface

Buyer’s guide

Bulk pricing

How wholesale flannel pricing works

Shirts price per unit by weight, format and case count — blanks price sharpest, embroidery adds a stitch-count charge with one-time digitizing, and program tiers reward standing seasonal orders.

FAQ

Wholesale flannel questions, answered

What's the wholesale minimum?
12 shirts — one case, mixable across sizes in one plaid. Tiers improve at 72, 288 and 1,000, and mixed-plaid cases are available from the stock tier up.
Are the plaids printed or yarn-dyed?
Yarn-dyed — the pattern is woven from dyed threads, so it can’t fade into a ghost of itself after ten washes the way printed plaid does. It’s the single biggest quality marker in flannel.
Can we buy blanks and decorate them ourselves?
Yes — blank cases are a core offering, with embroidery-stable construction your shop will appreciate. Or we decorate in-house; many buyers split the difference by program.
How does crew embroidery work?
Send the logo; we digitize once, proof the stitch-out, and run left-chest or yoke placements. Crew orders ship sorted by size with names available per shirt.
What's the sizing range?
XS–3XL standard with 4XL in core plaids — and we’ll recommend a size curve from your channel (retail curves differ from crew curves, and we track both).
Do flannels shrink?
Cotton flannel wants to — ours is pre-washed to keep shrinkage within a size tolerance. Care guidance ships with retail programs for the hang tag.
Can we get our own neck labels?
Yes — custom woven labels replace ours from the stock tier up, and full private-label runs (your plaid, your spec) open at 1,000 units.
What do margins look like for retail?
Typical boutique shelf prices give keystone or better on blank cases — your quote breaks per-unit cost by tier so the math is on paper before you buy.
When should we order for fall?
Cases for September racks should book by July; embroidered programs by mid-summer. Buffalo checks sell out first every single year — anchor plaids early.
Can brands do a merch drop with these?
Yes — yoke-logo flannels with hang tags are a proven brewery, roaster and podcast merch play; drop-size runs fit the stock tier.
How do cases arrive?
Packed by plaid and size, poly-bagged per shirt, with decorated goods QC’d before packing — stockroom-ready on arrival.
How do I get a wholesale quote?
Send channel, plaids, sizes and quantity — blank or decorated — through the quote form; per-tier pricing and a size-curve recommendation come back quickly.
